History
We study History to inspire students to want to know more about the past and to think and act as historians. To help students gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire students’ curiosity to know more about the past and why the world is how it is today.
History should help our students in recognising how the present has been shaped by the past, how different people from different walks of life view the world and why this is.

It teaches them skills for life in lessons and to take out to the wider world. Our Historians go out into the world with a range of skills for example not to take everything on face value and to dig deeper to get the full story. They will also develop their evaluation skills- using a range of knowledge to make substantiated judgements in the historical periods studied and will be able to analyse sources and interpretations to gain the fuller picture of historical events that are studied.

The aims for all learners are:

Actively engage in History to develop as effective and independent learners and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds.

To understand the methods of historical enquiry, including how evidence is used to make historical claims, and discern how and why contrasting arguments and interpretations of the past have been constructed.

Develop their knowledge of both local, national and international History to understand why the world is how it is today.

To gain historical perspective by placing their growing knowledge into different contexts, understanding the connections between local, regional, national and international history; between cultural, economic, military, political, religious and social history; and between short- and long-term timescales.
Homework:
To support your daughter with completing work at home, each homework will be uploaded and set on Google Classroom for your daughter to complete and hand in electronically if she may wish.

To support you child the best thing you can do is regularly ask them about what they have learnt in school each day and encourage them to regularly watch the news along with this the following websites can be used to support pupils when completing homework tasks, or for wider learning in History:

Useful Websites to Support Learning in History at KS4
The History department has provided all KS4 students with a ‘Revision Guide’ which covers all the topics for the GCSE examination. Students are advised to use this frequently so as a parent if you could encourage them to regularly review and recap for key concepts, vocabulary, facts and events in detail this will support with their progress in lesson
